Michael Mawby is a seasoned lobbyist and patient advocate responsible for leading successful policy changes at both the state and federal level. He built the American Diabetes Assn. government relations shop from a small three person office to a team of more than 20 working on state and federal legislation, grassroots organizing and legal advocacy. During his decade with the ADA Congress expanded Medicare coverage for diabetes and 46 states passed similar legislation. In 2004 he left ADA to open a Washington office for the Danish pharmaceutical firm Novo Nordisk where he again started small but ended directing a team of 20+ that worked on federal and state legislation and policy. While at Novo he brought together a broad coalition of organizations to form the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance. Most recently he launched the legislative function for the Swiss firm Ferring Pharmaceuticals where, working with patient organizations, he led the first successful effort in the infertility space since the passage of Obamacare to pass a state “mandate” covering infertility procedures and medications. Mike has four children and now lives in Connecticut with his wife.
